Course overview
Explores the intersection of economic systems, environmental sustainability, and natural resource management with the Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Environmental and Resource Economics. You will develop foundational knowledge in financial literacy, economic environments, and business law, while building practical skills in data analysis and coding. Students completing this degree will graduate with the award of Bachelor of Commerce. The Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Environmental and Resource Economics is subject to approval.
Through advanced study in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and resource economics, students will examine sustainable economic development, and Australia's national and regional economy. Students will explore how economic principles can be applied to manage environmental risks, design effective policy responses, and support long-term ecological and economic resilience. This major prepares students to contribute to sustainable economic planning, environmental policy development, and resource management in both public and private sector contexts.
Practical experience
This degree provides students with practical experience that prepares them for the workforce. Students will gain hands-on experience through Work-Integrated Learning and industry placement programs, as well as immerse themselves in live industry projects with the New Venture Institute and engage with businesses in a real-world environment.
Your career
Graduates of the Environmental & Resource Economics major will be equipped to analyse the economic dimensions of environmental and resource issues, evaluate sustainability policies, and contribute to strategic planning. Students will be prepared for roles such as environmental economist, sustainability analyst, policy advisor, resource management consultant, or economic development officer. Potential employers include government departments, environmental agencies, consulting firms, international organisations, and private sector companies working in energy, agriculture, water, and natural resource management.
