Course overview
Explore how economic principles and data-driven insights shape decision-making in business, government, and global markets in the Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Applied Economics. You will build a strong foundation in microeconomics and macroeconomics, and develop practical skills in data analysis, coding. Throughout the degree, students will examine real-world economic challenges and apply economic knowledge to solve complex problems. Students will learn to navigate international trade policies, use game theory to decode business strategy, and apply behavioural insights to optimise decision-making. Students will also explore the role of sustainable development in economic planning and evaluate how global trade dynamics shape economic outcomes. With a focus on practical application, this major prepares students to make informed, strategic contributions in both public and private sector roles.
Practical experience
This degree provides students with practical experience that prepares them for the workforce. Students will gain hands-on experience through Work-Integrated Learning and industry placement programs, as well as immerse themselves in live industry projects with the New Venture Institute and engage with businesses in a real-world environment.
Your career
Graduates of the Applied Economics major will be equipped to critically analyse economic environments and apply economic reasoning to business and policy decisions. Students will be prepared for roles that require strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, such as economic analyst, policy advisor, business consultant, and market researcher. Potential employers include finance institutions, public and private organisations, consulting firms, government departments or agencies, and international organisations.
