Course overview
Combine the analytical power of economics with a deep understanding of political systems and public policy and decision-making with the Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Economics, Politics and Public Policy. You will develop foundational knowledge in financial literacy, economic environments, and business law, while building practical skills in data analysis and coding. Students completing this degree will graduate with the award of Bachelor of Commerce. The Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Economics, Politics and Public Policy is subject to approval.
Through advanced study in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and international trade, students will explore how economic theory informs public policy and how political ideologies and institutions impact economic decision-making. Students will examine Australian public policy, political economy, and Australia's national and regional economy, gaining insight into the challenges of balancing economic growth and social equity. This major prepares students to critically evaluate policy frameworks, contribute to evidence-based decision-making, and engage with complex economic and political issues in both public and private sectors.
Practical experience
This degree provides students with practical experience that prepares them for the workforce. Students will gain hands-on experience through Work-Integrated Learning and industry placement programs, as well as immerse themselves in live industry projects with the New Venture Institute and engage with businesses in a real-world environment.
Your career
Graduates of the Economics, Politics and Public Policy major will be equipped to analyse economic and political systems, evaluate public policy, and contribute to strategic planning and governance. Students will be prepared for roles such as policy advisor, economic analyst, political consultant, public affairs officer, research officer, or government relations specialist. Potential employers include government departments, think tanks, international organisations, political offices, consulting firms, and NGOs working in areas such as economic development, social policy, and regulatory reform.
