Course overview

Urban and regional planning is more than just creating built environments - it is also a way of achieving a more sustainable and equitable urban world. This course is suitable for anyone with a passion for geography, urban design, history, economics, politics or environmental studies. Students develop an understanding of all the key influences that affect the way we live, work, play and commute and the many other considerations involved in creating sustainable and liveable cities and regions. They engage in key areas of planning including land use, transport, social, heritage, environmental and policy. While this course focuses on Melbourne and its surrounds, students are introduced to planning practices from across Australia and the world. They learn from and are involved in many real-life projects with leading practitioners. Students also have the option of studying overseas in countries with progressive planning systems and participating in international study tours.
