Course overview

The Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Psychology) aims to develop knowledge of the factors influencing human behaviour and experience, and to provide skills for the application of this knowledge to issues in the real world. This degree develops core knowledge in psychological theory and research to prepare them for possible entry into an Honours program in psychology.

This degree provides comprehensive knowledge of such fields as learning, motivation, personality, emotion, development across the lifespan, social and cultural influences, biological influences, and mental health. Within this course, these core studies in psychology are linked to study in one other discipline, which provides knowledge required for a multidisciplinary understanding of human behaviour and experience. Also integral to the course is the development of critical thinking and research skills, and an understanding of the ethical responsibilities of researchers and psychology clinicians.

On completion of this degree students will have knowledge of influences on human behaviour, both normal and abnormal and an understanding of the principles and techniques of psychological research. Students will have knowledge of psychological assessment and measurement and the ability to critically analyse ideas and research.

This degree prepares graduates for employment in many fields given the broad scope of specialisations. Potential occupations may include community rehabilitation worker, disability employment consultant, and youth worker; potential employers may include community health providers, consulting firms and government agencies.

Expand your career options by combining this degree with the following:
  • Bachelor of Arts (SATAC code 214031)
  • Bachelor of Science (Animal Behaviour) (SATAC code 234211)
Combining degrees enables students to follow their interests and aspirations and enhance their career prospects by undertaking a second area of study in addition to their primary degree. Completing an approved combined degree option will normally add at least one extra year (full-time equivalent) to their studies. For example, students combining two three-year full-time equivalent degrees are normally able to complete both degrees in four years of full-time equivalent study. Students graduate with two degrees, expanding employment opportunities. Further information www.flinders.edu.au/study/explore/combined-degrees

This degree is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council.
