Course overview
In this course, students will explore crime and criminology studies in order to understand the motivations that underpin criminal acts. Students will gain the knowledge and skills needed to make a difference in communities by drawing on key themes in criminology to solve real problems in the community. Important subject areas include: an Introduction to Criminology, Policing and Offending, the Criminal Justice System, Applied Human Rights, Corporate crime, History of Criminal law and Trials, Contemporary Issues in Criminology, Victims, Justice and the Law. Through completion of the accredited psychology major, students will gain a strong theoretical and applied understanding of human behaviour, cognition and emotions. As part of this course, students complete a fieldwork placement unit, which provides students with the opportunity to consolidate and apply the knowledge and skills gained in their studies.

A wide array of potential employment and career routes are possible. You may find employment as a community service officer, health services worker and within the criminal justice and security areas such as corrections, policing, courts, crime prevention agencies and crime victim advocacy and support groups, Department of Justice research, community justice groups, customs, border security.
Completion of this degree will also enable you to apply for Honours in Psychology.
