There are few things more exciting than writing your own music and bringing it to life. The Diploma of Music with major in Songwriting at JMC Academy is a practical, 8-month course designed to help emerging songwriters turn their musical ideas into powerful, original works.

With a strong focus on individual musicianship, collaboration, and creative development, this course equips you with the essential skills to write, perform, and record songs that resonate. You’ll learn to craft lyrics and melodies that connect, while also gaining experience in performance, music production, and industry fundamentals.

Connected with national body APRA AMCOS and international songwriting networks, JMC offers a dynamic foundation for launching your songwriting career or for continuing into the Bachelor of Music.

Standard entry

  • Audition: All applicants must showcase their talents at an audition to demonstrate their style and musicianship. Two contrasting pieces of music of your own choice must be performed – either with a live accompanist or backing track – and should not exceed 10 minutes in total. All students will receive feedback on their performance on the day. Applicants with recent secondary education Completion of an Australian Year 12 (or equivalent)No ATAR required. Minimum age 17. All applicants Interview: Once we've received your application, we'll give you a call and organise for you to come in for a consultation with one of our student recruitment advisers.
