Designed for aspiring performers ready to make an impact, the Diploma of Music (Contemporary Performance) offers a fast-tracked, practical introduction to the music industry. In just 8 months of full-time study, you’ll sharpen your technical skills, explore your artistic identity, and gain real-world performance experience across a range of contemporary genres.

Practical experience
Throughout the course, students gain hands-on performance experience at JMC’s on-campus venues and curated live events. You’ll also have the opportunity to collaborate with peers across JMC’s creative disciplines, reflecting real-world industry collaboration.

Areas of study
Core musicianship, ear training, ensemble performance, instrumental technique (guitar, bass, drums, keys, voice), introduction to songwriting, and use of industry-standard music software and production tools, music business fundamentals, music theory, stagecraft.
Advanced Standing
You may be entitled to credit for prior learning, whether formal or informal. Formal learning can include previous study in higher education, vocational education, or adult and community education. Informal learning can include on the job learning or various kinds of work and life experience. Credit can reduce the amount of study needed to complete a degree.

Standard entry
- Audition: All applicants must showcase their talents at an audition to demonstrate their style and musicianship. Two contrasting pieces of music of your own choice must be performed – either with a live accompanist or backing track – and should not exceed 10 minutes in total. All students will receive feedback on their performance on the day. Applicants with recent secondary education Completion of an Australian Year 12 (or equivalent). No ATAR required. Minimum age 17. All applicants Interview: Once we've received your application, we'll give you a call and organise for you to come in for a consultation with one of our student recruitment advisers.
