Our coastal and marine environments face issues like climate change, pollution and urbanisation. By understanding these ecological, physical, conservation, societal and management issues, we can help find solutions to these problems.

The flexible structure of this degree allows students to pursue careers that span all sectors of the marine and coastal industry.
Potential roles include: Waterways and coastal officer, fisheries research assistant, environmental compliance officer, ecologist, coastal and marine park governance officer and marine biologist.

Animal biology, biodiversity and conservation, coastal and surface processes, coastal infrastructure, environmental regulation, geography, politics, and policy.
Your fundamental marine science skills can be complemented by up to two minors, from a traditional science or non-traditional areas such as social science or communication.

Professional recognition
Graduates can apply for membership of a range of professional bodies including the Australian Marine Sciences Association and the Australian Coral Reef Society.
Practical experience
Engage in up to 160 hours of career-ready placement.
Students will experience relevant field-based scenarios and engage with managers and policy makers from industry, government and the not-for-profit sectors.
Students can also engage with current research being conducted at the university and in the government sector.
Honours
Available as an additional year (or part time equivalent) to meritorious students.
