Course overview

Gain a comprehensive understanding of financial systems, markets, and institutions, with a strong emphasis on ethical and sustainable financial and investment decision-making with the Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Finance. You'll develop foundational knowledge in financial literacy, accounting principles, economic environments, and business law, while building practical skills in data analysis and coding. Students completing this degree will graduate with the award of Bachelor of Commerce. The Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Finance is subject to approval.

Students will explore the management of financial institutions, corporate finance, financial markets, and gain insight into investment strategies, portfolio management, and risk mitigation through derivatives. The major also focuses on ethical and sustainable finance, preparing you to navigate the evolving expectations of global financial systems. With a strong emphasis on real-world application using trading simulations at our specialised Finance trading lab, students will learn to apply financial knowledge across diverse commercial and organisational contexts, including planning, operations, and strategic decision-making.

Practical experience

This degree provides students with practical experience that prepares them for the workforce. Students will gain hands-on experience through Work-Integrated Learning and industry placement programs, as well as immerse themselves in live industry projects with the New Venture Institute and engage with businesses in a real-world environment.

Graduates of the Finance major will be equipped to analyse financial data, manage risk, and support strategic financial planning. Students will be prepared for roles such as financial analyst, investment analyst, portfolio manager, corporate finance officer, risk manager, financial planner, or banking and credit specialist.
