Course overview

Prepare to be an effective financial analyst and executive by being exposed to the Australian economic policy framework and how it applies to the financial services industry. This degree will introduce you to the microeconomic and macroeconomic environments in a global context to give you a firm grasp of rational economic decision-making processes.

The Bachelor of Finance and Business Economics provides students with the opportunity to develop broad finance and economics knowledge and competencies to facilitate careers in commercial business-related fields. Students will be encouraged and supported to develop transferable interpersonal and professional capabilities, including the capability to be reflective, self-evaluating and critically engaged. There is a focus on application of finance and economics knowledge, competencies and capabilities to diverse and global commercial business/organisation contexts. Students will apply their finance and economics knowledge and competencies to a broad range of commercial business/organisational practices including systems and processes, planning, supply management, production, operations, logistics and the use of current and emerging data and analytical practices.

On completion of this degree students will be able to critically apply broad theoretical and technical economics and finance knowledge and skills to inform accounting and management planning and analyse business financial practices and decisions using theoretical and technical knowledge of regulatory, governance, compliance, legal requirements. Students will be able to apply theoretical economics and finance knowledge, technical competencies and critical judgement to make recommendations for business planning and explain the impact of socially responsible, ethical, economic, regulatory, sustainability, governance and global perspectives on economics and finance theory and practices.

This degree provides students with practical experience that prepares them for the workforce. Students will gain hands-on experience through Work-Integrated Learning and industry placement programs, as well as immerse themselves in live industry projects with the New Venture Institute and engage with businesses in a real-world environment.

This degree prepares graduates for a wide range of employment opportunities or further study. Graduates will have a strong multidisciplinary focus giving them a competitive edge in the international marketplace. Potential occupations may include advisor, analyst and administrator; potential employers may include government agencies and private sector businesses.
