Course overview

This comprehensive six-year course covers the essential requirements of an Australian medical degree including anatomy and physiology, biological and social sciences, and clinical medicine. This course places special emphasis on tropical medicine and the health of rural and remote communities and Indigenous Australians. Students gain practical experience through a series of clinical placements, including in rural and remote areas. Townsville students must be prepared to take prescribed placements outside Townsville with about half of fifth- and sixth-year students relocated to clinical school sites such as Cairns and Mackay. Details can be found at JCU Teaching Sites. For current course information, visit Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at JCU.
