Course overview
This course provides you with the knowledge and skills to manage professional organisations, major sporting events and sporting facilities. The course has two majors.
The Sport and Active Communities major focuses on community sport, recreation and active living, its relationship with sport and recreation organisations, and how it can be managed to optimise participant satisfaction, build sustainable communities, and deliver social connections.
The Outdoor Recreation Leadership major uses adventure-based activities to develop skills, knowledge and experience to plan, organise, lead, guide and instruct complex outdoor recreation/education and adventure sport activities. It also provides opportunities to develop highly valued personal traits including integrity, cultural sensitivity, and psychological resilience. The use of workplace simulation and field labs are a highly attractive component of this major.

Career Opportunities
The sport and active communities major of this course can lead to employment as an administrator, officer or manager of sport governing bodies, clubs, facilities including stadia, arenas or gym and leisure centre, whilst the Outdoor Recreation major can see you become an educator, leader or trainer for outdoor adventure programs in schools, camps, local government, business, youth work programs, corporate training consultancies and health education agencies.

Higher Education studies Full or partial completion of an Australian Higher Education award (or equivalent), or completion of a single unit of Higher Education studies. Bridging and enabling courses Completion of a bridging or enabling course e.g. Foundation course or equivalent. Domestic applicants who have completed Foundations at VU (JYAC) will be guaranteed entry into this course. VET studies Completion of an Australian Advanced Diploma or Diploma (or equivalent), or completion of the Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation (or equivalent). VTAC Personal Statement Applicants who wish other criteria to be considered such as work/life experience or motivation to study should complete the VTAC Personal Statement. Supporting documentation should include a current resume and any other relevant evidence e.g. letter from employer, professional development activities etc. Work/Life Experience Five years (minimum) work/life experience in Health or Human Sciences, Training & Development, Community Sports or similar, or completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate more than two years ago.
