Course overview

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (Screenwriting) is designed for those who have the desire and talent to write audience-driven stories for the screen. This degree is the premier undergraduate degree in Australia dedicated to screenwriting. It trains students in the many facets of screenwriting through lectures, classes, film screenings and practice-based exercises. You will undertake units in cinematic writing, TV writing, adaptation and writing for games and web content, and will choose breadth subjects from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music, or from the University of Melbourne’s broad undergraduate subjects. You will attend workshops with Bachelor of Fine Arts (Film and Television) directing students, with a view to developing a wider industry perspective and forming creative partnerships. You will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources, including sound stages, animation studios, rushes viewing rooms, editing and sound mixing suites and 90 and 220-seat cinemas.

Standard entry

Year 12 prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English as an Additional Language or at least 25 in English other than EAL.

Non-Year 12 prerequisites

As for Year 12 or subject equivalents.
