Course overview

Do you feel an affinity with words, language and storytelling? If so, Deakin's Bachelor of Creative Arts, majoring in writing, is for you.

You will learn the fundamentals of good writing before progressing to professional standards. You will use these practical skills across a range of forms and genres - fiction, creative non-fiction, scriptwriting, life writing and writing for games.

With an emphasis on publishing or achieving professional standards in writing, you will be offered the opportunity to contribute to the Deakin student publication.

In your final year, you will develop a writing project of commercially viable standard and length under the guidance of industry professionals and published authors.

You will also be supported by Deakin to design your internship or choose from 600+ employers like Affirm Press and Flourish PR.

Subject adjustment

A study score of 30 in Art Creative Practice, Dance, Drama, Media, any Music, Art Making and Exhibiting, Theatre Studies or Visual Communication Design equals 4 aggregate points per study.

Overall maximum of 12 points.

Applicants who have experienced educational disadvantage are encouraged to apply for the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS).
