Course overview

The Bachelor of Information Technology (Cyber and Network Security) is a three year degree that will prepare you to work as a network security specialist in the fast-growing and dynamic IT industry. Cybercrime is a growing threat to Australian business, consumers and government, and this has created an unprecedented demand for professionals who can secure and monitor IT systems and protect personal and organisational privacy.
 
Developed in close consultation with industry, this degree has a strong applied focus, where you will learn through projects with the help of teachers who are industry leaders in the field. The degree also prepares students to sit for recognised industry certifications (such as Cisco, CCNA and CCNP).

Career Opportunities

On successful completion of this course you will be able to work in a range of roles related to the management of security of networks and big data. Our graduates go onto roles like: security administrator, system administrator, network administrator, cyber security support analyst and cyber security engineer.

Advanced Standing

Students who have completed related studies at Diploma or Advanced Diploma level may be entitled to recognition of prior learning (RPL) and exemption from some subjects in the Bachelor of Information Technology (Cyber and Network Security).

Students who have completed the TAFE NSW Higher Education Diploma of Information Technology (HE20626) are guaranteed entry into second year of the bachelor.

Standard entry

  • Minimum eligibility requirements Applicants are required to hold, at minimum, one of the following to be considered eligible for admission: a NSW HSC (Higher School Certificate) or equivalent OR a recognised Tertiary Preparation Certificate OR a qualification from a Registered Training Organisation at Certificate IV level or above OR the completion of at least one year full-time or equivalent in a degree course at a higher education institution. Additional requirements In addition to the minimum eligibility requirements all applicants are required to: submit a 500-word essay that shows your motivation to study and work in the information technology industry attend a pre-admission interview where you may also be asked to complete a short literacy and numeracy task - this helps us to understand how we can support your study success and provide you with any necessary support Have mathematics knowledge to HSC level or equivalent before entering this course, or you may be required to undertake a bridging program or preparatory course
