Course overview

The Bachelor of Music (Audio) combines a  love for music with a passion for sound. You will get a thorough, practical and hands-on experience in areas of audio sound engineering, alongside application of technical, professional and critical listening skills in a diverse range of audio environments. You will also focus on developing the practical techniques to use industry standard production software.

Collaborate with other student composers, musicians, and performers on recording live concert projects. Enjoy access to top-of-the-line recording facilities with the best digital and vintage analogue production equipment to perfect your technique and graduate confident and capable of using the latest software in sound and media production. Thrive in the theory that shapes sound engineering – acoustics, perception of hearing, digital audio, sampling and system design and follow diverse genres and styles through the history and culture of music. Be taught and mentored by high-calibre audio specialists in a supportive, creative environment. Your lecturers are all active in the national or international music scene, and will teach you the best and latest skills and theory.

Practical experience

Experience using a digital audio workstation (DAW) will be advantageous for successful entry and success during the first year of study. Ability to either play an instrument or sing is also advantageous but not required.

Standard entry

  • Applicants under 21 (including current Year 12s) Applicants under the age of 21 must provide evidence of at least one of the following: satisfactory completion of HSC (Higher School Certificate) including a minimum of English Standard in the last 2 years. Note that any result below a Band 3 in English Standard may require further assessment. satisfactory completion of IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma qualification in the past 2 years satisfactory completion of an AQF VET qualification (Certificate IV and above, or equivalent as assessed by DET) satisfactory completion of at least 6 months full-time tertiary study (AQF level 5 or higher). Applicants with work and life experience Applicants who are 21 years of age or older at the time of application are entitled to mature-age consideration. Mature-age applicants may obtain entry by performing to a satisfactory level in an audition and/or digital portfolio and/or interview. For applicants who do not meet the above criteria, admission may be granted by the Director of Academic Affairs or nominee based on a documented assessment of the applicant's overall ability to undertake the program of study and to achieve the course learning outcomes.
