Course overview

Do you have a passion for communicating with children and are you looking to pursue a career in Primary School Teaching? The Bachelor of Education Futures and Master of Teaching in Primary Education offers you the knowledge and practical hands-on experience to meet the current shortage of primary school teachers in Australia. Our combined "Vertical Stack" course (undergraduate + postgraduate degree) enables you to gain a depth of disciplinary knowledge in the Primary Key Learning Areas and related topics such as environmental sustainability, health promotion and applied technology. Gaining a wider and deeper understanding of topics related to education future  gives you more confidence when you commence as a teacher and to sustain your career. You enter the classroom up to date on the most current developments in the discipline, and this is highly valued by schools.

The unique vertical structure of this combined course means you do not need to meet the standard three Band 5 HSC results, including English, for admission to an initial teacher education course. To ensure that we maintain a high quality of teachers in the education sector, you'll need to achieve a credit average in the first two years of your university studies before progressing into your final years of the program. If you do not meet the credit average, you'll still be able to continue in the Bachelor of Education Futures and graduate with that qualification. The Bachelor of Education Futures can lead to employment opportunities in fields such as health education, environmental education, museum education, youth work, student learning support in schools, curriculum planning and research, and education for the creative and performing arts.

You'll spend 80 days in either public, independent or faith-based schools across NSW. This practical experience with a trusted UTS partner school will help you gain the skills and confidence in lesson planning, teaching, assessment, Indigenous truth telling and knowledge, equity and inclusion, classroom management and school-community building, and will also help you develop personal and professional networks within and beyond education for your future career path.

Not only will you be accelerated in your career pathway to primary teaching by achieving two qualifications, including one at postgraduate level, within the duration of a single undergraduate degree, you'll have the benefits of a range of career options.
