Course overview
The Bachelor of Counselling provides students with a comprehensive and flexible approach to theoretical, experiential, and skills-based learning. Students will learn strategies to successfully explore a career in contemporary counselling, including how to support individuals, couples, families, or groups, considering the cultural and social-political context in which they live and how this may affect them. The course is delivered in small group environments on-campus, online and by blended delivery (nine counselling units) by well-qualified and experienced academic teachers using quality curriculum.
Students may elect to complete a Bachelor of Counselling qualification with a minor in Coaching. This optional sequence is designed to provide an introduction to the theories and applications of coaching across a number of contexts.
For 540501: This course is offered on-campus or through a combination of online and blended delivery. Blended delivery consists of a combination of face-to-face and online learning. There are compulsory attendance requirements for certain units. Blended delivery units require attendance at a mandatory two-day workshop.
This course is also available on-campus in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Byron Bay (first year) or Perth.

Professional recognition
This course has been professionally accredited by the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) and the Australian Counselling Association (ACA). Practical experience
This course includes 200 hours experience in a professional placement, with 40 hours of face-to-face client counselling. This placement is linked with two clinical supervision units over two consecutive trimesters. This course also includes 90 hours of volunteering which is completed before placement in the final year, and 50 hours of a service learning project in a community group as part of a core unit.

Standard entry
- Applicants with recent secondary education Recommended studies: Any 2 units of English. Qualification: One of the following: completion of a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (or equivalent) completion of a Certificate IV or above (or equivalent) admission to an undergraduate degree at an Australian university (or equivalent) and participate in a screening interview (typically by phone though online can be arranged if required) . ATARs are not a necessary component of the ACAP admissions criteria. We assess undergraduate applicants on other applicable admission criteria . Applicants with higher education study Refer to the ACAP general admission criteria. Applicants with vocational education and training (VET) study Refer to the ACAP general admission criteria. Applicants with work and life experience Interview: If you will be aged over 21 years by the start date of your selected trimester you must participate in a screening interview (typically by phone though online can be arranged if required).
