Course overview

If you’re thinking of joining the growing league of financially astute business leaders who make up the $20-billion accounting industry in Australia, studying a business degree with an accounting focus will put you in a strong position to succeed in any industry, anywhere in the world.

Being good with numbers is only part of the equation; accountants also need to be able to interpret financial data to help inform business decisions and communicate their findings clearly and effectively.

As the accounting profession adapts to evolving expectations, it is crucial to balance your specialist business and accounting skills with ‘soft’ managerial skills, to enable you to make an impact in a range of complex, global environments.

The Bachelor of Business (Accounting) offers:

  • 26 subjects in total
  • 12 core business subjects
  • 6 specialisation subjects
  • 6 elective subjects
  • 2 WIL (Work Integrated Learning) subjects.

The degree focuses on interrelated business areas of the accounting profession, differentiating it from other accounting courses, providing you with flexibility and choice in your career.

Built into your qualification are two Work Integrated Learning (WIL) subjects, competed over two trimesters.

In the study period prior to your first WIL subject, we work closely with you to secure a suitable professional placement that is the best fit for your skills, interests and professional goals. Your placement could take you anywhere in Australia, or internationally. It is all about securing the most suitable placement for you.

That means that by the time you graduate you will have work experience on your CV; a network of contacts in your chosen industry; and the confidence to jump straight into your career.

The Bachelor of Business (Accounting) is industry-focused and aims to develop contemporary knowledge and skills needed for success. This means:

  • real-world assessments
  • industry relationships
  • developing 21st-century skills, such as digital literacy
  • everybody gets to complete a professional placement in a business that aligns to their preferred industry
  • access to personal study assistance and wellness support
  • an emphasis on professionalism which includes: business cards, interview preparation, wearing business attire in class, setting up LinkedIn profiles, access to the Careers Hub, mentoring from high-achieving students and alumni, working on your CV with guidance from your Work Integrated Learning consultant.
