Course overview

The Bachelor of Dance Practice delivers a mix of theoretical, practical and experiential learning that will allow work-ready graduates to secure dance-related opportunities across many different dance industry contexts.

The course covers the broad range of learning essential to the profession: artistry including choreography and performance, educational and organisational skills for studio-based teaching including safe dance practice, the values and ethics of community arts practice and dance within a health context, professional skills of project management, running a small business, and technical production.

The Bachelor of Dance Practice is also a pathway course to the Bachelor of Dance Education. The first year of the pathway degree has the same units. If you meet the entry requirements, you do not lose credits or any time when you transfer into the second year.

Standard entry

  • Applicants with recent secondary education Assumed Knowledge: 2 units of English, experience and training in dance. Other applicants Refer to the ACPE general admission information English language requirements: All applicants must meet the minimum English language requirements for their chosen course of study. Computer literacy: All applicants for entry to any course must meet minimum computer literacy standards as determined by the college, have a personal email account and unrestricted access to the internet. Working with Children Check: For courses that involve work integrated learning where students may deal with children (ie under 18 years of age) a valid Working with Children Check must be supplied to the college prior to the student undertaking coursework. Applicants who anticipate failing a Working with Children Check should not apply for course entry. Additional criteria – dance courses Dance Workshop: Students applying to enter these courses must meet the requirements under one of the categories above. Applicants for Dance degrees are expected to have experience and training in Dance, which may include Dance as a HSC subject. Students will be required to attend a dance workshop during the Orientation Week. Through the dance workshops, we will be able to assess the level of your dance skills and assign appropriate level tutorial group. Students are encouraged to disclose of pre-existing injuries which may affect your study. Dance workshops are held on a regular basis. Read further information and register for a dance workshop.
