Course overview
The Secondary Education degree provides a qualification enabling you to teach students in Years 7-12 in Government, Catholic and Independent secondary schools, whilst at the same time allowing you to pursue another specialist interest.
This major will prepare you with content and pedagogical knowledge to teach the Mathematics secondary school curriculum from Years 7 to 12.
You will also choose a second teaching area specialisation, which may be:
- a minor teaching area, or in an area other than Mathematics in the school curriculum; OR
- broadening study in the Mathematics teaching area, or units that deepen your understanding of Mathematics content and extend your curriculum and pedagogical knowledge in Mathematics; OR
- further studies in an education specialty, such as Catholic Education

You will complete four professional experience placements in this course. These placements provide opportunities to practise and demonstrate the skills and knowledge gained under the supervision of a mentor teacher. All placements are required to be undertaken in a full-time block at the required school site. There may be opportunities for a country, interstate or overseas placement.
Professional Registration:
This course is accredited by the Teachers’ Registration Board of WA (TRBWA), and is recognised nationally as an initial teacher education qualification. Graduates can register as a teacher in Australia and other countries that recognise Australian teaching qualifications.
Internships:
The final professional experience placement is referred to as the Internship and is conducted over one school term in a full time block mode. The Internship is undertaken in a school setting. There may be opportunities for a country WA or interstate Internship placement.

Applicants with work and life experience STAT elements considered: Written English, Verbal and Quantitative. STAT alone is not accepted for entry to this course
If the student's current English result is below the direct-entry requirement, consider the university's recognised English language pathway or ELICOS package. When the student successfully completes the approved pathway at the required level, the university may accept that pathway for English entry without requiring a new IELTS, TOEFL or PTE result.
