Course overview
The Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Science double degree course provides students with an accredited academic qualification for entry into legal practice, and an avenue to pursue their interest in one of Data Science, Earth Sciences, Environmental Science, or Information & Communication Technology. Completion of this double degree equips graduates to apply their legal and scientific knowledge in the fast paced and existing work of scientific and technological innovation, whether that is in a large corporate law firm or in a small start-up technology company.
The Bachelor of Laws degree is a qualification approved by the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia. It will equip you with legal knowledge and core skills that are essential to effective legal practice. It will also give you a strong awareness of commercial law and opportunities to connect with industry.

Environmental scientists manage human impacts on the environment through the application of expertise in the physical and biological sciences to generate innovative and sustainable solutions to environmental issues. This may involve skills such as monitoring the impact of industrial, urban and agricultural development, measuring and analysing pollutants, developing conservation and management plans, restoring degraded environments and conducting research. Graduates will be able to apply a flexible and multifaceted approach to environmental problem-solving through their scientific knowledge, research capability and practical skills in core biology disciplines and through specialisations and minors in Environmental Management, Marine Science, Landscape Restoration, Climate Change Science, or Agricultural and Environmental Genetics.

Practical Experience / Workbased Learning:
Curtin’s Bachelor of Laws offers a rich and professionally relevant coverage of foundational areas of legal knowledge as well as developing the core skills essential to effective legal practice. It will give you an accredited legal qualification, the first step to admission to practise as a lawyer, including the giving of legal advice and appearing in court. It will also give you a strong commercial awareness and the opportunity to focus on industry.
Students will also be equipped with skills aligned to the needs of a number of government agencies: Department of Environment and Conservation; Office of the Environmental Protection Authority; Department of Transport and the Water Corporation. The course will also prepare students for employment as Environmental Officers in Regional Development Commissions and local governments. Graduates will be suited to employment within the private sector, including companies involved with resource extraction and post-extraction restoration, environmental consultancies, eco-tourism enterprises, and environmental restoration.
Professional Recognition:
An undergraduate degree in law is the first qualification you need if you want to practise as a lawyer in Australia. Further practical legal training must be undertaken after completing the Bachelor of Laws to be eligible for admission as a barrister and solicitor in Western Australia.
To be eligible for admission as a lawyer in Western Australia you must either undertake the Practical Legal Training course or complete 12 months articles of clerkship. For further details about admission as a lawyer in Australia refer to the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia website.
Depending on the major area of specialisation in the Environmental Science major, graduates will be eligible for membership of the Australian Institute of Biology, the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand, as well as associate memberships of the Royal Australian Chemical Society and of the Australian Institute of Geoscience.

If the student's current English result is below the direct-entry requirement, consider the university's recognised English language pathway or ELICOS package.
