Entry requirements

Postgraduate and higher courses usually use academic prerequisites, degree equivalence and English-language requirements.

Postgraduate entry

  • A Major Study is study undertaken for an equivalent to a total of three-quarters of a year of full time higher education study (0.75 EFTSL), usually comprising sequential discipline study undertaken over three years. In most programs, this equates to at least six units with no more than two at first year level and no fewer than two at third year level.
  • Applicants who do not meet the above criteria on initial assessment will be offered a place in the Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) where they can work towards the Master of Teaching course requirements. Students who complete their first session, completing four subjects (equivalent to one session of full time study) in the Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) and now meet the Master of Teaching (Secondary) requirements, can transfer from the Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) across to the Master of Teaching (Secondary).
  • English Language Proficiency Entry Requirements for Initial Teacher Education Programs.
  • All applicants who do not meet the Standard CSU English Language Proficiency Requirements must demonstrate proficiency by completing an Academic IELTS (or equivalent) with an overall score of 7.5 (with no score below 7 in reading and writing, and a score of no less than 8 in speaking and listening) - see CSU Concordance Tables for accepted equivalent measures.
English requirement
IELTS 7.5 (L 8 / R 7 / W 7 / S 8)TOEFL iBT 102 (L 28 / R 24 / W 27 / S 26)PTE Academic 73-78 (L 79 / R 65 / W 65 / S 79)Cambridge C1 Advanced / C2 Proficiency 191-199 (L 200 / R 185 / W 185 / S 200)

If the student's current English result is below the direct-entry requirement, consider the university's recognised English language pathway or ELICOS package. When the student successfully completes the approved pathway at the required level, the university may accept that pathway for English entry without requiring a new IELTS, TOEFL or PTE result. Always confirm exclusions for professional registration courses and the offer conditions.
