Ten years later, it was time to once again take the educational lead by introducing our redesigned MD course, offering unprecedented levels of flexibility to those beginning their medical career. Designed for students who have completed their undergraduate studies and are committed to professional training, the Melbourne MD supports both the personal and professional development of each individual. The redesigned course aims to produce high quality medical professionals who can thrive in complex environments and be the leaders of change. It delivers advanced clinical and academic training to ensure students are prepared for the challenges of internship and an increasingly diverse medical career. With an emphasis on choice and customization, the Melbourne MD allows students to build their own future.

Entry requirements

Postgraduate and higher courses usually use academic prerequisites, degree equivalence and English-language requirements.

Postgraduate entry

an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in any discipline with studies to have been completed within 10 years of 1 January in the year in which you intend to commence this course,

  • Successfully completed either the Graduate Australian Medical School Admission Test (GAMSAT) OR the North American Medical Colleges Admission Test (MCAT)
  • An undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in any discipline completed more than 10 years ago, AND a graduate diploma, masters degree or PhD (or equivalent) completed within 10 years of 1 January of the year in which you intend to commence this degree,
  • You must achieve a minimum score of 50 in each section of the GAMSAT in order to be considered eligible for entry.
  • You must achieve a minimum score of at least 492 in the MCAT in order to be considered eligible for entry.
  • International students residing overseas at the time of application may complete the MCAT in place of the GAMSAT.
  • International applicants residing in Australia at the time of the application must use the GAMSAT
  • they are not permitted to use the MCAT.
  • In addition to meeting the entry requirements, you must also perform satisfactorily at a Multi-Mini Interview.

If your current English result is below direct entry, consider the university-recognised English language pathway or ELICOS package; successful completion at the required level can usually satisfy English entry without another English test.
