Course overview

From simple mobile games, through to amazing virtual reality worlds: if you love games and are interested in how they work, this is the degree for you. The Bachelor of Game Design is truly hands-on, with an emphasis on the creative aspects of game production. You will develop an in-depth knowledge of the games industry, the game design pipeline, and the history, aesthetics and societal impact of games and gaming. You'll explore topics in game art, game narrative and game design, developing the essential skills in game production using industry standard software and game engines.

Working alongside industry and collaborating with other students on real-world games and VFX projects, students will focus on asset and game production, but also have the opportunity to undertake programming, coding and visual effects as elective topics.

City Campus

Flinders City Campus offers a broad range of study areas and is designed for collaborative learning, interactive teaching and industry engagement. Positioned adjacent to the Adelaide Railway Station on North Terrace and central to trams and buses, the City Campus provides students with greater connection, convenience and accessibility.

Your career

On completion of the degree, students will have advanced knowledge of game engine implementation, game art production, and of the creative and practical processes of game production. Students will work collaboratively across creative arts cohorts, while engaging closely with industry as they develop game concepts and produce game assets in a production environment.

The degree prepares graduates for employment in a wide range of careers, including as a game artist (2D and 3D), level designer, gameplay designer, writer for games, environment artist, game animator (2D or 3D) or project lead. Potential employers may include game developers, real-time interactive production studios, animation, simulation and digital media companies.
