The Bachelor of Business Economics provides students with the opportunity to develop broad economics knowledge and competencies to facilitate careers in commercial business-related fields. Students will be encouraged and supported to develop transferable interpersonal and professional capabilities, including the capability to be reflective, self-evaluating and critically engaged. There is a focus on application of economics knowledge, competencies and capabilities to diverse and global commercial business/organisation contexts. Students will apply their economics knowledge and competencies to a broad range of commercial business/organisational practices including systems and processes, planning, supply management, production, operations, logistics and the use of current and emerging data and analytical practices.

On completion of this degree students will be able to critically apply broad theoretical and technical economic knowledge and skills to inform accounting, finance, economics and management planning and analyse commercial business practices and decisions using theoretical and technical knowledge of regulatory, governance, compliance, legal requirements and the economic environment. Students will be able to apply theoretical knowledge, technical competencies and critical judgement to provide recommendations for business planning.

This degree provides students with practical experience that prepares them for the workforce. Students will gain hands-on experience through Work-Integrated Learning and industry placement programs, as well as immerse themselves in live industry projects with the New Venture Institute and engage with businesses in a real-world environment. This degree prepares graduates for a wide range of employment opportunities or further study. Potential occupations may include equity advisor, data analyst and business consultant; potential employers may include government agencies and private sector businesses.

Combining degrees enables students to follow their interests and aspirations and enhance their career prospects by undertaking a second area of study in addition to their primary degree. Completing an approved combined degree option will normally add at least one extra year (full-time equivalent) to their studies. For example, students combining two three-year full-time equivalent degrees are normally able to complete both degrees in four years of full-time equivalent study.
