The Bachelor of Business majoring in Human Resource Management provides students with the opportunity to develop broad knowledge and competencies to facilitate careers in business-related fields. Students will be encouraged and supported to develop transferable interpersonal and professional capabilities, including the capability to be reflective, self-evaluating and critically engaged. Students will apply their knowledge and competencies to a broad range of business/organisational practices including systems and processes, planning, production, operations and the use of current and emerging data and analytical practices.
Human Resource Management (HRM) focuses on the effective management of people, to ensure their work activities are productive, and achieve the aims and strategic objectives of the organisation. The HRM specialisation commences with an overview of organisational behaviour concepts and theories, including an introduction to legal obligations in the workplace environment. A range of upper level topics further extends students' understanding of HRM, with studies in International HRM, Labour Law, Recruitment and Selection, and Remuneration and Performance Management.
Practical experience
This degree provides students with practical experience that prepares them for the workforce. Students will gain hands-on experience through Work-Integrated Learning and industry placement programs, as well as immerse themselves in live industry projects with the New Venture Institute and engage with businesses in a real-world environment.
Your career
On completion of this degree students will be able to critically apply broad theoretical and technical accounting, finance, economic, marketing, and human resources management knowledge and skills to inform management planning and analyse management practices and decisions using theoretical and technical knowledge of regulatory, governance, compliance and legal requirements. Students will be able to explain the impact of socially responsible, ethical, economic, regulatory, sustainability, governance and global perspectives on management planning and practices.
This degree prepares graduates for a wide range of employment opportunities or further study. Potential occupations may include industrial relations advisor, human resources manager and labour market analyst; potential employers may include government agencies and private sector businesses.
