Course overview
Follow your interests in core sciences from a diverse range of disciplines with a Bachelor of Science. You have the flexibility to explore an area that interests you while getting a broad foundation in science by studying a major, or gaining more specific expertise and a named degree by studying a specialisation. Majors are available in a range of disciplines such as Chemistry, Data Science, Mathematics, Molecular Biology, Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Sustainability and Wireless Systems Security.
The Bachelor of Science degree provides an extensive range of options for students who want to discover where science can take them - and where they can take science. There is great flexibility, allowing students to follow their interests without being confined by traditional discipline boundaries. Students do not need a science background to enrol in this degree. There are no prerequisites and introductory studies are offered where necessary.
This degree is designed to provide the strongest possible foundation for a science-based career including field work, laboratory experiences, work integrated learning and industry placements to ensure you are job ready.
Your career
Our graduates are equipped not just to find their first job in their chosen field, but to explore new options in later years as science - and their own interests - change and develop. Many students continue their science training by undertaking an additional one year Honours degree in a single discipline area. Further postgraduate studies are available in coursework or research degrees.
Graduates can gain employment in depending on the areas of science students choose to study, including: automotive, building/construction, business, defence, education, environment, government, manufacturing, mining, pharmaceutical, primary industry, research, sales, and tourism. There is a growing shortage of scientists in Australia who will create the next generation of ideas.
The Chemistry major is accredited by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute.
Other Science degrees available include:
Bachelor of Science (Specialisations): An option for applicants who want to complete a science degree with a particular focus in a specialisation. Specialisations are available in: Advanced Science, Animal Behaviour, Biodiversity and Conservation, Biotechnology, Environmental Science, Forensic and Analytical Science, Marine Biology and Palaeontology (Please see separate SATAC entries for details regarding these degrees).
Bachelor of Science (Specialisations) pathway to Honours: These degrees provide an enhanced program of studies for applicants who wish to complete a science degree with a particular focus in a specialisation and is suited to those who intend to undertake research higher degree (Masters, PhD) studies or postgraduate study in science in the future, or embark on a scientific research career.
Bachelor of Science (Advanced Science) pathway to Honours (see SATAC code 245271): This degree provides an enhanced program of studies for applicants with exceptional academic ability and is suited to those who intend to undertake research higher degree (Masters, PhD) or postgraduate studies in science in the future, or embark on a scientific research career.
Combine your degree

-
Bachelor of Laws (Honours) - Legal Practice Entry (SATAC code 245051)
Please visit these SATAC pages for further information.
Combining degrees enables students to follow their interests and aspirations and enhance their career prospects by undertaking a second area of study in addition to their primary degree. Completing an approved combined degree option will normally add at least one extra year (full-time equivalent) to their studies. For example, students combining two three-year full-time equivalent degrees are normally able to complete both degrees in four years of full-time equivalent study. Students graduate with two degrees, expanding employment opportunities. For further information please visit Combined Degrees.
