Bachelor of Health Sciences / Master of Occupational Therapy

Develop the knowledge and skills required to become registered and work as an occupational therapist. The degree has a strong focus on preparing you for interprofessional practice, and on becoming a contemporary health professional able to work across a variety of settings and with a wide range of clients. This degree is accredited by the Occupational Therapy Council of Australia Ltd (OTC) and approved by the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (OTBA).Graduates will be eligible to apply for registration as an occupational therapist with the OTBA.The program is also approved by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.

This double degree will prepare graduates to promote the health and participation of people, organisations and populations through engagement in everyday activities or occupation. Building on our strong tradition of teaching and research in health sciences, the double degree will meet national priority areas of health care and workforce needs with an awareness of rural, remote and Indigenous health.

Practical experience

This degree provides students with practical experience that prepares them for the workforce. Students will undertake clinical simulation activities to enhance learning experiences, get hands-on experience in over 1,000 hours of supervised clinical placements and experience at least one rural or remote clinical placement.

Your career

This degree prepare students for professional practice as occupational therapists. Graduates will be flexible, innovative, creative, reflective, and responsive critical thinkers and practitioners, able to adapt and respond to changing industry needs. They will critically consider the knowledge and evidence base underpinning practice to ensure high quality clinical reasoning and delivery of professional and ethical occupational therapy practice suited to context and need. Graduates will be able to work in a variety of settings across public health and non-government organisations, as well as private practices.

Equal Consideration

Equal consideration is a central principle of the admissions process. Equal consideration means that all applicants who have the same selection rank for a degree (or a subquota within a degree) are treated equally i.e. either all or none will be entitled to an offer, provided application deadlines and other application requirements are met by the set deadline.

Applicants who lodge an application by the relevant closing date and comply with all the application requirements, including having all grades/results by the required deadline, will be guaranteed equal consideration in the selection process. If however, an application is lodged late or does not comply with all the application requirements, including having all grades/results by the required deadline, they will not be guaranteed equal consideration.

Applicants who have applied on time but shuffle this preference after the Change of Preference deadline will not be guaranteed equal consideration. Applicants who have applied on time will be required to have all pending or missing grades and/or adjustment factors finalised no later than 31 December 2025 to be guaranteed equal consideration.

Applicants are advised that should they receive an offer for a place in this degree, they will be required to enrol in topics by the enrolment deadline stated in the letter of offer from SATAC. If they do not enrol via the Flinders University Student System by the specified date and maintain enrolment, their offer in the degree will be forfeit. Applicants who receive an offer for a place in this degree should also note that if they subsequently receive an offer to a higher preference, their offer will be deemed superseded and will be forfeited.
