Course overview

Develop a comprehensive understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of computing technologies, and prepare yourself for a career in a computing-related field. You will gain the practical experience required to design efficient, reliable software that meets industry standards and also learn about the hardware on which software runs. The Bachelor of Computer Science is accredited by the Australian Computer Society at the professional level and is recognised internationally under the Seoul Accord.

The Bachelor of Computer Science has been designed to provide students with a strong foundation in both the theoretical and the practical aspects of computer science and an ability to critically analyse and evaluate information and solve problems. This degree provides awareness of social, economic, cultural, and environmental aspects of computer science in preparation for future roles as a computer scientist.

Practical experience

Students have the option to undertake either a 12-week or 20-week industry placement in their final year of study, preparing them for the workforce and giving them the opportunity to build industry connections and develop practical skills, ensuring they are career ready.

Your career

On completion of this degree students will be able to competently use professional skills and knowledge in the systematic development of complex computer-based systems and demonstrate a broad understanding of the computer science discipline. Develop computer-based solutions appropriate to the social, political, international, economic and environmental contexts in which they are applied and engage in the process of continued learning needed to retain the necessary level of professional skills and knowledge in the area of computer science.

This degree prepares graduates for ongoing professional development, preparing graduates for further study or for a career in a computing related field or in other areas where the range of skills and knowledge acquired is needed or desirable. Potential occupations may include analyst programmer, computer scientist and information technology officer; potential employers may include database developers, administration and government agencies.
