Course overview

The Associate Degree of Applied Social Science explores the connection between Indigenous knowledge systems and the western culture.

These specialised fields of study prepare you for professional and/or further study or research that can contribute to, and further develop, effective and equitable engagement between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and the broader Australian community.

You focus on the theoretical concepts and practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander traditional owners promoting accountable leadership, advocacy and empowerment for people and communities to help them reach their goals for effective participation in modern Australian social, cultural and economic life. Key areas you will focus on include: Indigenous social policy, Indigenous resource management and Indigenous community action.

You will demonstrate an ability to work within broader society as an active and cultural agent of change, applying what you learn in a culturally informed and respectful manner.
