Course overview

The Bachelor of Early Childhood Education prepares students for a career as a Kindergarten Teacher. The course design is underpinned by a deep understanding of approaches to child development, teaching and learning theories, together with a critical approach to pedagogical principles and practice in early childhood education. The foundation of the program is centered on diversity and inclusion. The lenses of equity, social justice and leadership are embedded across all subjects. The course consists of 24 subjects; 19 core subjects and 5 Professional Experience placement subjects. The program ensures that graduates meet the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, 2014.

  • Current Year 12 graduates Educational outcomes considered for selection Successful completion of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or the equivalent in your state or territory, or successful completion of the International Baccalaureate. Applicants do not require an ATAR to meet the admission requirements for this course. Successful completion of secondary school studies and the minimum study score in English is required. Applicants with VET study Entire academic record This course uses the entire academic record as part of its selection considerations. Admission criteria for applicants with a Vocational Education and Training study Completion of an Australian Diploma or Advanced Diploma (or equivalent). Applicants who have successfully completed a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care may be awarded credits to a maximum of one year towards the Bachelor degree. Applicants with work and life experience Entire academic record This course uses the entire academic record as part of its selection considerations. Admission criteria for applicants with work and life experience Applicants may demonstrate the equivalence by completing the multiple-choice component of the Special Tertiary Admission Test (STAT). SPECIAL TERTIARY ADMISSIONS TEST (STAT) https://stat.acer.org.au Applicants who completed VCE more than two years ago may demonstrate equivalence of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate (VCE) by completing the multiple choice component of the STAT.
