Course overview
The Bachelor of Biosecurity Science will build specialised skills and knowledge across the broad spectrum of agriculture, food production, horticulture and environmental fields, focusing on the control and management of pests and disease. Graduates will be able to exercise initiative and professional judgement in the diverse context of biosecurity science. Students will develop skills and knowledge in the plant, animal and microbiological sciences in combination with an understanding of the social and economic framework surrounding the biosecurity continuum. The course commences with foundation studies in biology, microbiology, anatomy and physiology, and introduces students to biosecurity and agriculture through site visits to relevant industries. At the conclusion of the course, students will undertake a two-month industry placement to evaluate and report on the biosecurity principles and practices in the workplace, demonstrating their skills and knowledge to potential employers.
