Course overview

This course will equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to be an effective early childhood teacher and leader, registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching. You will study philosophies, principles and practices of early childhood teaching and how teaching and learning in discipline areas of language and literacy, mathematics, arts, and science together with health and wellbeing are integrated across early childhood education play based programs. You will further develop your leadership and management skills to lead programs across a range of early childhood service types. This course is delivered through occasional weekend intensive workshops and regular evening tutorials, self -paced and online activities and industry-related assessment. Each subject has 30 hours of face-to-face time and 5 hours of online tasks. You will study 28 core subjects; and 4 professional placement subjects with 80 days of practicum placement in a range of early childhood settings.

Satisfactorily complete a selection interview- this takes the place of the CASPer test.

TEMEC

If Math prerequisites are not met, students will need to complete our Tertiary Entrance Mathematics Equivalency Course (TEMEC).
