Course overview

The Bachelor of Information Technology Professional has been designed for those high achieving students and those who learn by practice. NBIP offers the opportunity to engage in a 12-month placement in the IT industry as part of the degree. Students will gain valuable insight into the work environment as IT professionals, mentored by workplace colleagues, lecturers and Work Integrated Learning (WIL) supervisor/s. Participation in professional development opportunities, seminars, networking events and project management will contribute to the outstanding ‘job-ready’ graduate after spending two semesters in placement. The college will help students organise industry placement opportunities, or students can organise on their own where their main activities should be IT-related activities. This course focus on areas of high job-demand: web development, mobile application development, network and system computing, cybersecurity, cloud app development and big data analytics.

Standard entry

Current Year 12 graduates

ATAR

This course uses the ATAR as part of its selection considerations.

Subject adjustment

A study score of 30 in English other than EAL, Maths: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics equals 5 aggregate points per study.

A study score of 35 in English as an Additional Language equals 5 aggregate points per study.

Overall maximum of 20 points.

SEAS (Special Entry Access Scheme)

Applicants who have experienced educational disadvantage are encouraged to apply for the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS).

Depending on eligibility and your circumstances, a SEAS application may provide support for your course application.

Higher Education studies

Completion of at least one semester of an Australian Higher Education award in any discipline (or equivalent)

Second year entry:

Completion of at least two Higher Education semesters in one of the following courses at Victoria University:

  • Bachelor of Information Technology (NBIT)
  • Bachelor of Cyber Security (NBCS)
  • Bachelor of Data Science (NBDS)

Note: Meeting the minimum requirement for entry to second year does not guarantee entry.

Places are limited and applicants will be competitively ranked based on their course WAM in their first two semesters of Higher Education study

Applicants with VET study

VET studies

Completion of an Australian Advanced Diploma or Diploma (or equivalent).

Completion of the following diploma course at Victoria University with at least 80% WAM

  • Diploma of Information Technology (VDIT)

Places are limited and applicants will be competitively ranked based on their course WAM.

Applicants with work and life experience

VTAC Personal Statement

Applicants who wish other criteria to be considered such as work/life experience or motivation to study should complete the VTAC Personal Statement.

Supporting documentation should include a current resume and any other relevant evidence e.g. letter from employer, professional development activities etc.

Work/Life Experience

Completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate more than two years ago, plus Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or 20 in any other English (or equivalent).

If your current English result is below direct entry, consider the university-recognised English language pathway or ELICOS package; successful completion at the required level can usually satisfy English entry without another English test.
