Give your early childhood career an edge by developing your leadership skills with a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and Leadership at Victoria University (VU). Set yourself up for advanced career opportunities with this unique VU course, the only one of its kind that allows you to dedicate four years of study to early childhood education with a focus on leadership. Your Bachelor of Early Childhood Education will prepare you for a rewarding career nurturing the development and wellbeing of children from birth to five years. As a degree-qualified kindergarten teacher, or other early-childhood educator, you’ll: support young children with the important foundations to set them up for success in life develop techniques for involving families as important contributors to the learning process set children up for effective transitions to school. At VU, you will learn to support children to feel capable and confident. You’ll build a strong sense of social justice, understand child development in the early years and develop ethical professional teaching practice that includes Indigenous perspectives. By adding a fourth year to your bachelor degree, you will open the door to a higher-paid salary, senior roles in early childhood education and management positions in childcare centres.

Current Year 12 graduates

Educational outcomes considered for selection

Completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate (VCE or equivalent).

SEAS (Special Entry Access Scheme)

Applicants who have experienced educational disadvantage are encouraged to apply for the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS).

Depending on eligibility and your circumstances, a SEAS application may provide support for your course application.

Applicants who wish other criteria to be considered such as work/life experience or motivation to study should complete the VTAC Personal Statement.

Supporting documentation should include a current resume and any other relevant evidence e.g. letter from employer, professional development activities etc.

Applicants with Higher Education study

Higher Education studies

Successfully completed or partially completed an Australian Higher Education award (or equivalent) or successfully completed two units of Higher Education studies.

Bridging and enabling courses

Completion of a bridging or enabling course eg.

Foundation course or equivalent.

Entire academic record

This course uses the entire academic record as part of its selection considerations.

Applicants with VET study

VET studies

Successful completion of an Australian Advanced Diploma or Diploma (or equivalent), the Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation (or equivalent) or the Diploma of Teacher Education Preparation (22451VIC).

Applicants with work and life experience

Applicants must demonstrate 5 years (minimum) work/life experience in training and development, education, child care or a similar industry.

Applicants without work/life experience or further study since leaving Senior Secondary School will be assessed on their Australian Senior Secondary (VCE or equivalent) results.
