Course overview

Prepare for a rewarding career as a secondary school teacher with the flexibility to teach from Year 7 through to VCE. We’ll help you become an engaging, motivating and innovative secondary school teacher. You’ll choose two specialisations from a range of teaching areas that will develop your content knowledge needed to successfully teach in those areas. You’ll be ready to teach by undertaking a minimum of 80 days of supervised teaching placement throughout the course.

Standard entry

Current Year 12 graduates

ATAR

This course uses the ATAR as part of its selection considerations.

Guaranteed ATAR: If you receive an ATAR of 70.00 or higher and complete all the requirements for this course, you will be guaranteed an offer.

Subject adjustment

A study score of 40 in any Humanities, any History, Literature, Media or Philosophy equals 3 aggregate points per study.

Overall maximum of 5 points.

SEAS (Special Entry Access Scheme)

Applicants who have experienced educational disadvantage are encouraged to apply for the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS).

Depending on eligibility and your circumstances, a SEAS application may provide support for your course application.

Recent Year 12 graduates

Literacy and numeracy test

If VCE Maths and English requirements or equivalent have not been met, a Literacy and/or Numeracy assessment is required to demonstrate the pre-requisite requirements.

Applicants required to complete the assessment will be notified.

This only applies to applicants who completed Year 12 prior to the current year.

Applicants with Higher Education study

Entire academic record

This course uses the entire academic record as part of its selection considerations.

Minimum requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of at least one year of tertiary study in a relevant field
  • Meets the VCE Maths and English requirement benchmarks.

Applicants with VET study

  • Successful completion of a TAFE qualification at Certificate III or IV in a cognate or appropriate area, such as Community Services, Education Support, Children's Services, or Nursing
  • At least one year of experience in a relevant area of education or support service

OR

  • Successful completion of a recognised TAFE Diploma program in a cognate or an appropriate area
Applicants with work and life experience

VTAC Personal Statement

Any relevant work and/or life experience that you would like considered as part of your application should be included in the VTAC personal statement.

Please include your employment history and any relevant volunteer work.

Applicants who have not completed secondary education, or undertaken any TAFE or university studies will not be eligible for entry into this program.

Applicants in this category should consider a pathway program such as Federation Access Studies (FAST) course.

English requirement
IELTS Academic 7 (L 7.5 / R 6.5 / W 6.5 / S 7.5)

If your current English result is below direct entry, consider the university-recognised English language pathway or ELICOS package; successful completion at the required level can usually satisfy English entry without another English test.
