Course overview

The Associate Degree in Applied Science is hands-on, and includes a number of specialised simulated workplace laboratories. Throughout this course, you will develop a broad range of skills in chemical and biological laboratory techniques, commonly used in biomedical laboratories. You will learn to isolate, purify, amplify and characterise DNA, and perform tasks such as tissue culture, electrophoresis and other laboratory skills associated with biomedical sciences.

The Bachelor of Science will prepare you for a career as a scientist in the field of biology. You will study biological diversity of plants, animals and microbes based on your understanding of the chemical and physical basis of how cells function. You will see how these biological entities come together in various environments to form ecosystems and understand how these environments can be disrupted. You’ll have the opportunity to experience hands-on field studies and laboratory practices.
