Course overview

In La Trobe's Bachelor of Education, you'll get the skills, experience and confidence to make a real impact as a qualified teacher from your first day. Offered at every La Trobe campus in Victoria, our flexible degree lets you explore your options before deciding what you'll teach – early childhood and primary, primary, or secondary – at the end of your first year. You'll learn how to manage classrooms, design class plans and guide students by spending at least 80 days in schools and education centres across metropolitan, regional and rural Victoria. You'll build your skillset in digital learning, learning contexts, literacy and numeracy, student development and classroom readiness. You'll learn how to design learning environments that meets the needs of a wide range of students inclusive of race, gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic and Indigenous status. You'll graduate with an accredited degree and the in-demand skills you need to launch your teaching career.

Standard entry

Current Year 12 graduates

ATAR

This course uses the ATAR as part of its selection considerations.

Minimum ATAR including selection adjustments: The minimum selection rank for this course, is equivalent to an ATAR of 70.00If applicable, this includes adjustment factors related to subject adjustments and SEAS.

Casper

All applicants will complete a situation judgement test to support selection into teaching programs.

This is a requirement for initial teacher training courses in Victoria and aims to assess an applicant's personal and professional attributes.

You can either register to sit the online Casper Test or the La Trobe University School of Education Aptitude for Teaching Assessment (AFTA).

You can register for the AFTA online test for free.

Regional Adjustment

Applicants whose residential address is classified as RA2 or higher using the Australian Statistical Geographic Standard - Remoteness Area (ASGS-RA) (2021) qualify for a regional adjustment.

SEAS (Special Entry Access Scheme)

Applicants who have experienced educational disadvantage are encouraged to apply for the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS).
