Course overview

The Bachelor of Music (Music Theatre) develops your skills in four core disciplines: Voice, Acting, Dance and Musicianship. Students will learn to develop the ear of a musician, the body awareness of a dancer, the imagination of an actor and a thorough understanding of the music language. We are devoted to producing multi-skilled performance artists and creatives who will graduate with capabilities to meet the demand of the industry with professionalism, skills and techniques and within a nurturing learning environment. You also have the opportunity to study other areas of music that might complement in the development of your Music Theatre skills.

Amplify your vocal skills through individual voice lessons and groups masterclasses from high-calibre professional practitioners in a supportive and creative environment. Advance your performance skills in our purpose-built learning and performance spaces and graduate with a performance portfolio drawing on the multiple performance opportunities in and out of the AIM campus.

Practical experience

Ability to sing is required. Previous acting and dance training is advantageous however, training will be provided during your studies and is not a prerequisite for entry.

Standard entry

Applicants under 21 (including current Year 12s)

Applicants under the age of 21 must provide evidence of at least one of the following:

  • satisfactory completion of HSC (Higher School Certificate) including a minimum of English Standard in the last 2 years.

Note that any result below a Band 3 in English Standard may require further assessment.

  • satisfactory completion of IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma qualification in the past 2 years
  • satisfactory completion of an AQF VET qualification (Certificate IV and above, or equivalent as assessed by DET)
  • satisfactory completion of at least 6 months full-time tertiary study (AQF level 5 or higher).
Applicants with work and life experience

Applicants who are 21 years of age or older at the time of application are entitled to mature-age consideration.

Mature-age applicants may obtain entry by performing to a satisfactory level in an audition and/or digital portfolio and/or interview.

For applicants who do not meet the above criteria, admission may be granted by the Director of Academic Affairs or nominee based on a documented assessment of the applicant's overall ability to undertake the program of study and to achieve the course learning outcomes.
