Course overview
The Bachelor of Information Technology (Data Engineering) will give you the skills you need to build data systems, architecture and platforms to support big data solutions. Big data is a fast evolving field in business and commerce and there is a growing demand for professionals with the experience to build IT solutions to manage big data.
In this course you will develop a thorough understanding of concepts and methodologies, as well as a comprehensive knowledge of networking, technology and systems, data security and infrastructure engineering. As well as developing an understanding of the theory, you will develop analytical and critical evaluation skills that you will apply to practical projects and simulate real workplace contexts.

Advanced Standing
Students who have completed related studies at Diploma or Advanced Diploma level may be entitled to recognition of prior learning (RPL) and exemption from some subjects in the Bachelor of Information Technology (Data Engineering).
Students who have completed the TAFE NSW Higher Education Diploma of Information Technology (HE20626) are guaranteed entry into second year of the bachelor.
Career Opportunities
On successful completion of this course you will be able to work in a range of roles related to the management of security of big data. Our graduates go onto roles like: data engineer, SQL developer, cloud data engineer, big data analyst and data warehouse engineer.

Standard entry
- Minimum eligibility requirements Applicants are required to hold, at minimum, one of the following to be considered eligible for admission: a NSW HSC (Higher School Certificate) or equivalent OR a recognised Tertiary Preparation Certificate OR a qualification from a Registered Training Organisation at Certificate IV level or above OR the completion of at least one year full-time or equivalent in a degree course at a higher education institution. Additional requirements In addition to the minimum eligibility requirements all applicants are required to: submit a 500-word essay that shows your motivation to study and work in the information technology industry attend a pre-admission interview where you may also be asked to complete a short literacy and numeracy task - this helps us to understand how we can support your study success and provide you with any necessary support Have mathematics knowledge to HSC level or equivalent before entering this course, or you may be required to undertake a bridging program or preparatory course
