Course overview
This course provides a comprehensive grounding in counselling frameworks and skills, ethical practice and cultural diversity. It provides entry-level counselling training with a strong focus on contemporary counselling and psychology theory, research and practice. You can undertake the International Coach Federation (ICF) accredited units available in this course to focus your studies on coaching.
For 540501: This course is offered on-campus or through a combination of online and blended delivery. Blended delivery consists of a combination of face-to-face and online learning. There are compulsory attendance requirements for certain units. Blended delivery units require attendance at a mandatory two-day workshop.
This course is also available on-campus in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne or Perth.

Grief and loss counsellor; online and telephone counsellor or mental health support counsellor throughout the public, private, community and not-for-profit sectors. Students completing units in coaching will have gained a solid grounding in the theory and practice of coaching, and be capable of working with a variety of clients and contexts. Upon completion of the course, students are eligible to gain a credential with the International Coach Federation (ICF), a leading global organization dedicated to enhancing the professionalism of coaching.

Professional recognition
Our counselling degrees are currently undergoing re-accreditation with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA). This course is accredited by the Australian Counselling Association (ACA). The coaching units are professionally accredited by the International Coach Federation.
Practical experience
The course provides substantial counselling experience through 200 hours of student placement (including 40 hours of client counselling contact), 90 hours of voluntary counselling related fieldwork, and 50 hours of a service learning project.

Standard entry
- Applicants with recent secondary education Recommended studies: Any 2 units of English. Qualification: One of the following: completion of a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (or eqv) completion of a Certificate IV or above (or eqv) admission to an undergraduate degree at an Australian university (or eqv) and participate in a screening interview (typically by phone though online can be arranged if required) . ATARs are no longer a necessary component of the ACAP admissions criteria. We assess undergraduate applicants on other applicable admissions criteria . Applicants with higher education study Refer to the ACAP general admission criteria. Applicants with vocational education and training (VET) study Refer to the ACAP general admission criteria. Applicants with work and life experience Interview: If you will be aged over 21 years by the start date of your selected trimester you must participate in a screening interview (typically by phone though online can be arranged if required). Also refer to the ACAP general admission criteria.
