Course overview

The UNSW Bachelor of Design includes three distinct specialisations: Computational Design, Industrial Design and Integrated Design.

The Bachelor of Design is a three-year degree when studied full time with UNSW Arts, Design and Architecture (ADA). The degree focuses on the many ways design responds to historical, social, cultural and environmental values, and how this can influence the future.

Whether you are challenging the conventional ways materials, processes or technologies are used, or finding new solutions to old problems, this degree will provide you with the right skills for a career across a range of established and emerging fields of design.

Not only will you learn how to combine creativity and independent thinking with practical and technical skills, you will also discover a career that allows you to have a real and meaningful impact, each and every day. 

Key features of the degree include:

  • Three specialisations:
    • Bachelor of Design in Computational Design
    • Bachelor of Design in Industrial Design
    • Bachelor of Design in Integrated Design

      Develop skills in your choice of specialisation in Computational, Industrial or Integrated Design with the flexibility to explore skills across specialisations in elective courses or an optional minor.
  • Real work experience: Combine professional development, specialist facilities and industry-standard technologies with experienced, well-connected design educators to start your career before you even graduate. This degree includes industry experiences such as internships, work placements, studio projects and industry networking opportunities.
  • World-class technologies: Bring your ideas to life in state-of-the-art facilities with support from our technicians. Discover the Design Futures Lab at our Kensington campus and The Making Centre at our Paddington campus with fully equipped creative workshops including Textiles, Fashion, Jewellery, Ceramic, Metal and Wood workshops, and digital studios. You will also have an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription throughout your studies.

Double degrees:

Bachelor of Design can be combined with 424100 Bachelor of Commerce, 422145 Bachelor of Education (Secondary), 421051 Bachelor of Media.
