Course overview

The Bachelor of Psychological Science/Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science double degree combines two highly complementary areas of study fundamental to good health and wellbeing and to improving performance whether in sport or life in general.

Students will capitalize on the synergies between the two fields of study and as graduates promote optimal physical and mental health through the lifespan. The program will provide the basis for postgraduate studies in exercise physiology and the necessary knowledge and skills to progress to further studies in psychology for those intending to pursue registration as a psychologist. The psychology sequence provides comprehensive coverage of psychology, including lifespan development, biological, social and abnormal psychology, individual differences, psychological and research methods, as well as other areas of applied psychology. The Exercise Science component focuses on the roles and benefits of exercise and healthy lifestyles in the contexts of elite sport, recreational physical activity as well as community health and wellbeing.

Professional recognition

This course is currently accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) and undergoing scheduled re-accreditation for 2025 onwards. Upon completion of an APAC-accredited undergraduate degree, students who go on to complete Honours in Psychology will be eligible for provisional registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia. Please note that after completion of an APAC-accredited undergraduate degree, a further minimum of three years education and training in psychology is required to register as a psychologist in Australia.

This degree has provisional accreditation by Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) at the exercise science level for Strathfield and Melbourne campuses. ?ESSA requires all individuals seeking initial accreditation to meet?ESSA's English Language requirements?. 

Practical experience

For Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science: 140 hours of professional experience. Before students begin professional experience for this course, they should review the mandatory state or territory legal and industry policy requirements. Honours

Available as an additional year to meritorious students who wish to undertake research training to make a contribution to scholarship and evidence-based psychology or exercise science practice.

Recommended studies: Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE), mathematics or biology, chemistry or physics.
