Course overview
Biomedical Science is a 3 year undergraduate degree that explores a wide range of scientific disciplines that focus on the human body in the context of health and disease. The program begins with anatomy and physiology, molecular and cell biology, microbiology and biochemistry. In the final year we focus on immunology, pathology, genetics, neuroscience and infectious diseases. The degree covers all the modern scientific principles and exposes the student to contemporary scientific techniques that have been used by biomedical scientists to develop innovative diagnostic techniques or novel treatments for disease. Importantly the training helps you to develop critical thinking skills for scientific analysis. Students undertake an industry based practicum program in the final year of the program to help produce industry ready graduates capable of working in many areas of Biomedical Science.
The Bachelor of Health Promotion is an innovative degree that focuses on holistic and multidisciplinary approaches that promote individual and community health and wellbeing. It produces industry ready graduates capable of working in a variety of health promotion settings. The content and structure of the degree is drawn from the Ottawa Charter’s five action areas (Building Healthy Public Policy, Creating Supportive Environments, Strengthening Community Action, Developing Personal Skills and Reorienting Health Services) and key strategies for health promotion (negotiating, enabling and advocating).
