Course overview

Combining science and innovation in a double degree has a great potential to lead to exciting and diverse career opportunities. Many of the world's most pressing issues, such as climate change, healthcare, food security, and sustainable energy require multidisciplinary solutions, combining technical knowhow with an innovation mindset.

You might identify novel opportunities, develop disruptive technologies, or create new products or services that transform businesses and societies. You might start your own ventures based on scientific discoveries or bring fresh perspectives to existing industries through innovative approaches.

Today, mathematics is used in most fields, including technology, natural science, engineering, medicine, finance and the social sciences such as sociology and psychology. Employment prospects are good as mathematics graduates have high level problem solving skills. The Mathematics Major can be a stepping stone to a wide and diverse career. Alongside this major, students can take a specialisation in Optimisation, Industrial Mathematics, Actuarial Mathematics or Applied Finance. The major provides students with the foundation knowledge and skills necessary to pursue their interest in these areas of mathematics.

Are you inspired by innovation? If you want the skills to be an innovator or to help solve the big challenges, from local to global, the Bachelor of Innovation is for you. You will gain the expertise and the creative mindset to solve complex industry and societal challenges, to make a difference.

The course has been designed by researchers at Curtin Business School to support the development of next-generation innovators. The course integrates our ‘GRIT’ concepts – global, responsible, innovative, technology – and the skills that the World Economic Forum has identified as ‘non-negotiable’ for the 21st century. During your studies you will learn innovation strategies and how to innovate ethically, engage globally, and use technology decisively to deliver solutions with positive social and industry impacts.
