Course overview

The application of science to real-world problems is becoming increasingly more complex and truly multidisciplinary in nature. In many areas of scientific endeavour, no single scientific discipline is sufficient, as reflected in, for example, our search for solutions to climate change, provision of clean water and energy, food security and the management of big data. This course provides graduates with the skills to operate across the traditional boundaries of a single scientific discipline.

The Multidisciplinary Science Major gives students the opportunity to combine rigorous study in areas, such as biology, chemistry, computing, geology, mathematics or physics. It also allows students to combine scientific study with units from areas outside of the physical sciences, such as Humanities or Health Sciences.

The flexibility of this major allows it to be used as a pathway to other more prescribed courses such as engineering, medical radiation science, nutrition or pharmacy. Graduates will also be ideally placed to develop a teaching career across a range of science areas.
