Course overview
The Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) provides students with the knowledge and skills to become professional chemists in analytical, research and industrial laboratories. The Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical Engineering) prepares graduates to design and manage industrial processes for the extraction, conversion and purification of raw materials. The processes include petroleum refining, gas processing, petrochemical production, mineral processing, metal refining, fertiliser and cement manufacturing, water treatment, food processing and pharmaceuticals production. The combination of the two degrees provides graduates with versatility, which opens up a wide range of employment opportunities in the research, development and operation of industrial chemical processes.
The first year of the course is common with other engineering programs. This is followed by studies in inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry, and mainstream chemical engineering topics in materials handling, reactor engineering, energy transfer, process control and product separation.

Other Information
Practical Experience / Workbased Learning: To satisfy professional requirements, students must complete at least 12 weeks or equivalent of exposure to professional engineering practice.
Internships: Students are strongly encouraged to secure industry placements (assisted by a Work Integrated Learning officer) that can form part of their Exposure to Professional Engineering Practice requirement.
Professional Recognition: This course has been accorded full accreditation by Engineers Australia and satisfies all the academic requirements for Chartered Engineer (CPEng) status. To qualify for Chartered status, a graduate also requires a minimum of four years' approved experience following the award of the Bachelor of Engineering degree. Some engineering courses are also recognised by various other national and overseas discipline-specific, professional institutions. Further information regarding membership of professional institutions can be obtained from the Engineering Operations Office or from Engineers Australia (Western Australia Division).
The degree also meets the academic requirements for graduate membership of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute, the Institution of Chemical Engineers, and Engineers Australia.

IB Diploma
24-26Admission is assessed against the qualification, prerequisite and English requirements for the course.
If the student's current English result is below the direct-entry requirement, consider the university's recognised English language pathway or ELICOS package. When the student successfully completes the approved pathway at the required level, the university may accept that pathway for English entry without requiring a new IELTS, TOEFL or PTE result. Always confirm exclusions for professional registration courses and the offer conditions.
