Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) (Honours)

Inspire curiosity as a secondary school teacher. With this accredited teaching degree, you'll be qualified to teach students from years 7-12.

In this degree you'll learn how to create positive learning and engaging environments and explore adolescent development. Gain experience creating lesson sequences, supporting individual learning goals and leading assessments - skills that are essential for fostering student success.

As part of your studies, you'll build specialised knowledge across two subject areas aligned with the Australian Curriculum. You'll undertake 80 days' worth of placements, where you'll gain hands-on experience in real schools.

You'll graduate classroom-ready, equipped to lead purposeful and relevant learning. This degree will make you eligible to apply for registration with the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia (TRB).

What you'll learn

Develop an understanding of how adolescent brains learn and retain information, along with practices that support equity and excellence. Study inclusion strategies, policies and legislation, person-centred planning and advocacy.

Explore how teaching methods have evolved and inform contemporary approaches. Build knowledge on planning, clear instruction, personalised support, assessment, literacy and numeracy.

You will learn positive classroom management, including how to establish social harmony, respect and good communication. Develop culturally and contextually responsive teaching practices through your learning on First Nations peoples, class, race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity and religion.

You'll build specialist knowledge across two subject areas aligned with the Australian Curriculum. You can select your major and sub-major subject areas from the Australian Curriculum, including:

• The Arts

• English

• Health and Physical Education

• Humanities and Social Sciences

• Languages

• Mathematics

• Science

• Technologies.

Experience professional placement from your first year of study, totalling 80 days of placement within schools. Your fourth-year professional experience will include the Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA) and you must pass the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Educators (LANTITE) by the end of your first year.
